International Project Manager (IPM)

Job Description:

The International Project Manager (IPM) will lead a dynamic team focused on innovations in eco-sustainable renovation in Europe. S/he will be responsible for spearheading all work of the team, developing new business opportunities, managing a growing group of analysts, overseeing the budget and engaging in advocacy at the European level. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of the innovation in sustainable built environment, construction, and financing sectors. International Project Manager will be reporting directly to the CEO and COO as well as collaborate with other business unit heads.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead several high-profile European Commission-funded projects, particularly projects where GNE Finance is playing a coordinator role.
    • Oversee project planning, timely delivery of tasks, organize and participate in consortium meetings; identify key issues and mitigations; manage all reporting to the Commission, and provide strategic input.
    • Offer technical and strategic leadership to the team of analysts on topics ranging from home renovation program set up, energy efficiency financing, public-private partnerships, digitalization, European policy instruments, etc.
    • Coordinate and review the writing of project deliverables.
  • Pursue new project opportunities for the unit.
    • Analyze and detect key opportunities in terms of European funding (Horizon Europe, LIFE, IEC, ELENA) and pursue relevant consortia.
    • Lead the proposal development together with other companies, organizations, Universities and public administrations. Develop proposal concept, design the structure and build the team responsible for writing and research.
    • Cultivate relationships with key public administrations in Spain and EU in order to develop advisory and consulting services. Collaborate with GNE Programs business unit.
    • Develop new commercial opportunities for the design, set up and management of publicly-funded sustainable home renovation programs.
  • Offer leadership to the team of Analysts.
    • Support and coach young professionals to set them up for success and growth within the company. Hold monthly or quarterly reviews.
    • Organize team building activities and fun events.
    • Recruit and hire new additions to the team.
  • Manage the budget of the EU projects in line with the rules and regulations imposed under the Horizon 2020/Horizon Europe programmes.
  • Offer thought leadership by regularly writing opinion pieces, technical white papers, and speaking at European events (e.g. Covenant of Mayors Investment Forum, EUSEW, Enlit, etc.).

Professional Strengths and Experience:

  • Three years of experience in European policy, energy efficiency, project management in the context of sustainability. Expertise in energy efficiency and renewable energy; familiarity with sustainable finance and clean energy financing; understanding of public private partnerships. Experience working with public authorities (cities, regions, energy agencies, etc.) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a team of professionals.
  • Proven track record managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders. Specifically, experience obtaining and managing European projects (under Horizon 2020 or other grant schemes)
  • Proven leadership skills and excellent interpersonal skills; ability to face challenging situations with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt communication styles depending on the audience.
  • Excellent command of English and Spanish; Italian, French or Dutch is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel on a project basis.


Location: While the HQ is located in Barcelona, we make an effort to recruit talent from all other European countries.


Schedule: flexible/hybrid (4 times/month visit office in Barcelona).


Type of contract:

1) The position is to cover a substitution of approx. 4 to 6 months duration.

2) Contract as freelance/self-employed per project.
